The Pakistani army and the Mogadishu war by Pascal Stieler

First of all I have to tell you a little about the Mogadishu conflict.
Mainly the Mogadishu conflict was an civillian war between two warlords. The two warlords were Mohammed Farah Aidid and Abdullahi Mohamed Siad Hersi.
Mohammed Farah Aidid ruled the capital Mogadishu. When the UN forces led by US Marines began to give food to the people, Aidid's Miliz took the whole food. Many people died of starvation.
After the US Marines returned to USA, Aidid declared war too the remained UN forces and also the Pakistani army. Aidid's Miliz kidnapped some Pakistani soldiers and killed them. That was why the USA send US Rangers and Deltas to Mogadishu. The Rangers and Deltas should capture Aidid and safe the capitol Mogadishu. But the operation failed.

Super six-four, one of the two Black-Hawks which were shot down from Somalis with an RPG-7, over the coast of Mogadischu.

The role of Pakistan in the Mogadishu conflict was that they should defend the capitol but didn't made it. Some Pakistani were kidnapped and killed by Aidid's Miliz. After the two Black Hawks crashed, the Pakistanis safed the US wounded soldiers with trucks and tanks out of the war zone. Crash site two was already safe when all US soldiers went to Wolcott's crash site. The whole night they fighted in corporation with Pakistanis against the Miliz. After the mission the US forces returned to USA and the Pakistani soldiers captured the capitol Mogadishu and Aidid was killed. The Pakistani General first didn't want to help the US because they didn't informed him about their operation. But he remembered the UN contract and then he mobilised the Pakistani forces and moved out to crash site one. Of course the Pakistani had big trucks and tanks but they didn't fight. They only sat in their vehicles and waited for the US soldiers to drive into the safe zone, to the Pakistani stadium (base of the 10th Mountains and Pakistani army).

With such tanks and troop ships the Pakistani evacuated the wounded and dead US soldiers.

Of course the Pakistani army hasn't got the best equipment but they are a strong military force today and are in much UN operations like in Afghanistan and Irak. In Irak the Pakistani army teach the Irak army. The Iraq army is learning from the Pakistan army all about tactics, engagement and modern warfare.

In the end I have to say that the Pakistani army wasn't well prepared but in the end they did their job and evacuated the wounded and dead US soldiers.
