Apartheid

Apartheid means a period of the racial segregation in South Africa. It started at the beginning of the 20. century, had a high phase from 1940 to 1980, and ended after a phase of understanding and a change of government in 1994. Today Apartheid is a international defind crime against the humanity.
The Apartheid was supported by a commission and it was institutionalized with laws and a special authority, wich should implement the Apartheid. The name of this authority is ministry was "Department of Bantu Administration and Development".
There were two types of Apartheid: The small Apartheid (Petty Apartheid) and the big Apartheid (Grand Apartheid). The day of the not-white people was marked by the small Apartheid. There was a seperation in services. Not-white people weren't allowed to go in public parks. They had separate departments in public transportations (like in a bus or in a train) and the kids went in separate schools. Bans on seperation was achieved by signs. So had for example hospitals and toilets two with signs marked inputs.

The big Apartheid means the spatial seperation between the not-white and white people. Black people had to live in one of the ten Homelands. Homelands were areas for black people, where many black people lived. The white people could live in much better and pleasanter araes. Were the settled areas of the white people too narrow then the black people had to go away and had to search a new area where they could live.

This were the Homelands of the black people.

In 1994 the Apartheid ended after many protest and many revolts of the black people and after a change of government. The UN supported the black people in the fight against the Aparatheid. Furthermore Nelson Mandela was a decisive person, who fought against the Apartheid. He was the most important representative in the fight against Apartheid.
