The Kangaroo
Kangaroos are one of the best known Australian animal species, they happen to be marsupials. The name kangaroo also includes different species like the wallabie and the tree-kangaroo. Australia and New Guinea are the only countries which naturally have the climatic conditions to host this demanding animals. The kangaroo is a plant eater and is nocturnal. As we know normally a kangaroo in the zoo it's hopping around on his hind feet, but a kangaroo also uses his forefeet to move slowly. In an affect of fear a kangaroo shortly reachs a speed of 50 km/h. In this case they jump only on their hind feet and use their long tail to balance. Jumps of 10 metres aren't rarities. When it comes to eating, they favour leaves and gras, but they do not avoid fruits and buds either. It's proven that kangaroos don't need much water to survive and with this ability they even handle long periods of drought. Their zip lock bag gives their babies the protection they need when they are born in the inside of a birth canal and autonomously crawl into it. In this bag they have teats to feed their child until it reaches an age of 8 months. For Australia the kangaroo is an important factor to draw terrorists that come because of the unique nature to explore including the kangaroos. (Lukas and Jonathan)
