- Food and Drinks in Canada -

The guests in restaurants have to bring wine and beer to themselves if they want to drink it. The guests use a gulp from their “flask”, that's very important in Canada. In it there is popular local rye whisky.
The favorite foods of Canadians vary slightly from region to region, and are strongly influenced by their family heritage, especially in relation to holiday celebrations. The basic of Canada food is meat as well as grain products and milk products. By the way the potato in foil is a speciality in Canada. Along the Atlantic coast, seafood and dishes derived from English traditions (except in Quebec) are common.

The region around Québec is famous for her French kitchen. They have their own culture with the breakfast in Canada. In the morning the locals create an extensive basis for the day.
In the morning there come warm and cold dishes together on the table and a typical breakfast exists of ham, eggs, fried potatoes, toast, jam and honey. The people in Canada go very often to restaurants and eat there. In restaurants the non-smokers are separated from the smokers. It is unusual that the guests sit at the table very long. And if the guests do not get to finish their servings, they can be wrapped up the rest and take it with home. That's no p
roblem there.

Unusual for us Germans it is that in Canada Chips are served except with ketchup often with vinegar. Moreover, the creamy Clam Chowder soup from little pieces of potatoes and crabs is a speciality in Canada. And It is funny that the people eat so sweetly and the maple syrup which is in varied taste marks is very important for them. Many families enjoy a visit in early spring to a maple sugar "shack," the special rustic building where sap from maple trees is boiled in a large open pan to make maple syrup. They eat her waffles in maple syrup dipped. For their thirst occasionally the Root Beer which is an alcohol-free and brown drink with a bitter aftertaste is liked in Canada, very much.

  1. Very nice text Madelaine! You have written a nice overview about the Canadian cuisine and supported it with nice pictures... I like your writting style... But don't forget to start with an introductionary sentece :-) For example you could write that your entry is about Canadian food and drinking tradition or something like that...

  2. Nice entry, Madelaine. (:
I think it's a very nice idea to write about food, because I like food very much. But I think we've heard a lot about food in every country and it's very nice to compare the food habits there.

  3. Yeah, I like your text and your topic. You have chosen a nice subject and you have structured your text in a nice way. But I think there is still space to change something. Maybe, you can highlight some words or give some special paragraphs a little title, like "French kitchen-Québec" or "creams and sauces". The text would be more structured and the readers could have an idea about the paragraphs. And try to explain difficult words in an easier way. Terms like "derive" or "extensive", what does they mean? Describe these words, that makes it easier for the readers and you can train your vocabulary ;) But all in all, very good work. If you want, you can cook or bake some canadian food and we'll taste it.
