BAFANA BAFANA!! (South African National Team)

Soccer comes to South Africa with the colonialism in the late 19. century. In South Africa were four Football Associations until the end of the apartheid. The all-white Football Association (FASA), founded in 1892, the South Africa Indian Football Association (SAIFA), founded in 1903, the South African Bantu Football Association (SABFA), founded in 1933 and the South African Coloured Football Association (SACFA) which was founded in 1936.

When the apartheid was over in Africa was only one National Footballteam and this team played
on 7 July 1992 played the first game against Cameroon and they won with 1:0. Before the apartheid on 2 November 1924 they played against Netherlands and they loose with 2:1.

The best rank of theSouth African Footballteam was in the year 2011 in the World Cup in South Africa. There they get the 16th place and it was close that they get into the last sixteen.

They got no single home stadium because they use all the stadiums in South Africa for the matches thay have. The biggest is the stadium near Johannesburg with 94700 seats.

In the picture you can see the stadium in Johannesburg during the construction.

  1. Thanks for this very nice article! It's very interesting for me because I am a real football fan :-)
Please remember: The English language usually doesn't put nouns together... for example: it's South Afrincan or national team... Don't write these words together!
